Project Description: |
The preparation, production and distribution of a newspaper involves a complex process carried out in varied working conditions by a mixed work force combining to produce an article which is important to the life of society. A building design for the production of newspapers must combine printing presses, distribution equipment, production equipment and newspaper staff in a cohesive consistent and flexible whole. The client selected Kenneth W Reed & Associates originally as concept architect based on previous experience and a design competition. The practice carried out the design, obtained planning consent and with others, wrote the employers design requirement document.
We retained a role throughout the project as client architect, monitoring progress and details and making decisions regarding colour, materials, finishes and furniture. With the client we continually reviewed progress and were heavily involved in the co-ordination of client press and production equipment. This link ensures we understand the forefront of technology in connection with all aspects of newspaper buildings and publishing equipment. This enables us to fully understand the newspaper printing industry and their building needs so far as space and servicing are concerned. Weymouth Print Centre has innovative features and is much admired in the industry. The building also represents a good corporate profile and extremely good value for money. |
