Case Study

John Lyon School

John Lyon School

The school is an independent single sex day school for 550 boys between the ages of 11 – 18, linked with Harrow School the school is part of the John Lyon Foundation.

The teaching accommodation is arranged within a series of building of varying age and condition on two adjacent sites.

The school has commissioned a review to create an accommodation strategy and development plan which will ensure future decisions on accommodation and facilities are made on the evidence of educational need and that will enable the continuing improvement and development of the learning environment.

The accommodation strategy fully analysed the built form against the teaching needs, it set the standards and promoted a vision for the school.

Following on the strategy identified a number of main drivers for future development and following extensive further investigation designs were put forward for a number of different projects.

All these were developed and planning applications have been lodged for many of the more controversial schemes where they may fall foul of planning polices in the Conservation Area.

John Lyon School Development Plan

The science extension has been approved and work will start in late 2007.
